www.dragonslair.co.nr

Have a look at the homepage. There is supposed to be a favicon on the page. WHY ISN'T IT COMING UP!!:). I have tried everything but nothing seems to work. Perhaps someone could look at the source of the page and tell me what was wrong.

1. Make sure you place your 16x16 pix "Favicon.ico" in every single folder that contains HTML files.
2. Place this code in the <head> of each HTML page: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">
3. The icon will only show after you have added the site to your favorites.

I have tried to add the page to the favourites but i doesnt work :)

Well, I only have one directory. The only other directory i have is an images directory that is blank (god knows why i havent deleted it yet!!!) so i think the first point is ruled out.

For the second point, do i really HAVE to put the code on every single page, what if i wanted it to work for the hompage only?

1 and 2 could be written like this, to make it easier:

1. Place your 16x16 pix "favicon.ico" in your root directory
2. Place this code in the <head> of each HTML page you want the icon to appear on: <link rel="Shortcut Icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

I don't seem to be very good at html. I'll give you the information about the icon and the website, then, can u generte for me the code i need to use?

Ok

The webiste address is :http://dragonslair.europe.webmatrixhosting.net

The icon name is favicon.ico and is placed in the root directory

The address of the favicon is:http://dragonslair.europe.webmatrixhosting.net/favicon.ico

so, can u please generate the code for me??:)

I tried what u said and it worked.

Now, another problem has arisen.

The favicon is only visible when you access the site directly which is dragonslair.europe.webmatrixhosting.net

If the site is accessed with dragonslair.co.nr it doesnt work, how should i solve it???

Upload the favicon and insert the <link> tag on the pages at the other domain...

aommaster

I dont think that will work  because the domain is a mask which redirects you to the actual site :D

I couldn't see where you inserted this code on your pages:

<link rel="Shortcut Icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

I also visited the page and was not able to pick out where the link was.

But, I saw this, and I was wondering what it was. I have seen this exact thing on another site.

Ok. I think i need to give a detailed explanantion. Well, i have signed up for this domain masking service. Where you get a domain and when people open that doamin, they are redirected to my actual site as it is nearly impossible to remember :D

So that is why the favicon wont show up. Now i need a way for it to show up

I didnt need to insert the favicon code as i had the access to the actual root directory

It looks like the domain but it isn't as i have anbled them to hide the real site name

As for the code you showed me on the site, I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what it is for. By the way, i am totally rubish at html and javascript so don't ask me questions about it :D

I hope this gives u guys some information. ;)

Get yourself a decent domain name! The free webspace that comes with your email account is not to be used for anything more serious than showing your holiday pix to some friends. Registration and hosting of a real domain won't cost you a lot and it saves you the hassle.

Actually, it didnt come with my email :) . I signed up for it. hmmm.... There must be a way to do it. I just cant find one :D . ITs ok anyway,it not really that important. I just do it so that i know how to

hmmm..... I seem to have found something. Look:

1.When i turn the cloaking off i.e. when it shows u the ACTUAL url, the favicon appears.

2. Then i turn the cloaking back on again, it doesn't have any effect on it, you will still see the actual url but the favicon does not appear.

Refreshing does not work. You will have to clear the CACHE, the COOKIES AND the HISTORY ot make it work again

I wonder what could be causing this:confused:

Try inserting the <link> code that was given above.

but, as i said before, its just domain masking. Its not realyl important anyways, just to know
