Hi,

I am developing an online store and now I am at the point of getting a host, ssl certificate and payment gateway. I think I'm going to buy the unlimited plan from godaddy.com and their SSL certificate EV with the green bar for $100. And then for the gateway I'm thinking of http://unitedbankservice.com/ (a reseller of authorize.net). Will all these services work together? And to secure my website do I simply just call https:// on the cart page, billing page and confirmation page? Thanks

I don't know if those services will work together.

If you have any problems with them, another option you might consider is using Paypal to handle your store's online payments.

With Paypal you can use their shopping cart or your own customised shopping cart. I use Paypal with my own shopping cart for online stores where the client asks me to set up the online payment system.

Using Paypal, you don't have to worry about the security issues related to collecting and storing shoppers' credit card details. Paypal does all that for you.

If you have at least an 'intermediate level' understanding of html forms, then incorporating Paypal into your website should be fairly straight forward.

If interested, maybe have a look at the Paypal website regarding using their online Payment system:

At first I was going to use Paypal but now I see that authorize.net is not that hard to implement and I want the whole transaction to take place on my website.

ok no problem :)

But in case you are not aware, you can customise the Paypal pages the shopper sees while making their payments to some extent by adding your company/store logo to the Paypal page and choosing your own backround colour to help give the Paypal payment pages the look and feel of your own website.

When the shopper has completed their transaction at Paypal, you have the option to set the Paypal page to redirect the shopper back to a "Thank You" or whatever page on your website where the shopper can then have the option to continue shopping and buy more items.

Anyway, just food for thought as a potential Plan B :)
