Hi,

Your ISP will usually provide you with some free webspace. For details of how to upload to their server go to their website and have a look. They will often provide you with a web address like myspace.aol.com. Alterniavly you could go to www.geocities.com to get some free webspace (a problem - it's loaded with ads).

You could use www.oneandone.co.uk to get a domain name.

Search these forums for more info on this topic - I remember seeing quite a few detailed threads on this topic.

Hope this helps,

Neil

Server: someone you connect to that you give files to and they post over the internet via their IP address

Domain Name: instead of typing the IP address, they type the host's Domain name. This can be bought from many different people... one good one i can think of right now is the new www.2ya.com domain registering because u can setup anything and everything with it.

Normally when u get a host, you can get a free or paid one. if u get a free one your not going to get your own domain name. so you could buy 2ya's and have it point to your host's webaddy that you get and host ur stuff on.

anyways, a good server is: www.aspfreeserver.com you signup for free and then follow their instructions. typing ftp://www.aspfreeserver.com and entering your username and password is how you upload stuff to them(upload into the WWW directory). whatever name u signup with them as(like XAXEI) will be the addy of your website. (www.aspfreeserver.com/xaxei is the domain name people type to get to your site.)

anyways just signup with them. dont worry about buying a domain name atm.

my 2 cents.

I assume this is your first site, so here are your options:

a) Sign up at a free host, such a geocities or tripod. There are tons of other, so look around. These will give you a domain such as host.com/yoursite or yoursite.host.com.

b) Pay for hosting and a domain name. I use influxhost.net and godaddy.com. This is probably not a good idea, though, 'cause you really don't need it yet.

c) Set up your own server. You could use Apache, or one of the others out there. This is pretty difficult to do, so not a good idea right now.

Theres lots of different ways you can publish your webpage.

You may only need a free webhost or something
if you do i would recommend
free webs (http://www.freewebs.com)

if you want just a domain name and nothing else, i have used
free parking (http://www.freeparking.co.uk)
before

With oneandone.co.uk you can redirect the domain name to your existing webspace quite easily.

its a scarey world we live in pyro. and to think 6 months ago i was using them and didnt know CSS from a font tag. *shudders* well at least with help from peeps like you i aspired to the creator of this fine page: http://somuchlove.2ya.com and hopefully geocities suffers a major hack attack and is completely irraticated from this earth. *shudders again at the thought of geocities*
