I have a Pentium IV, 2 GB RAM Memory pc which had installed Win XP Pro SP2Now I've properly installed Win 7 Ultimate. I was going to install Visual Studio 2008, but at beginnig of the process, it prompted this error message: "failed to copy vs_setup.msi". I open the readme file and found a solution for this error: Download and Install Windows Installer 3.1.

I went to Microsoft download center and read Windows Installer 3.1 is for Win XP, for Win 7 there is Windows Installer 5.0, but it is not still available for download. So I downloaded Windows Installer 3.1 and 4.5

When I tried to install the 3.1 version, I received an error message: Not enough space to process this command and so did the 4.5

Now I have this question:

Can Visual Studio 2008 be installed on Win 7 Ultimate version? if so, how can overcome the Windows installer problem related before or definitely I have to move back to my previous OS, Win XP Pro SP2?

I Really appreciate any suggestion or help with this matter

I have installed Visual Studio 2008 using Windows 7 Professional. The differences between Professional and Ultimate should be immaterial to application installation. The solution of installing Windows Installer 3.1 should be applicable to Windows XP SP2 and earlier; Windows Vista and Windows 7 innately support MSI packages that depend on this installer.

If I were to hazard a guess, your install media may be damaged. Are you trying to install from a disc? Are you able to copy the disc contents to a temporary folder on your hard drive to attempt installation?
