I'm very new to search engine submission and ranking.

Can anyone tell me some good software for search engine submission and software to tell me my page(s) rank.

Are there any good ebooks (free or fairly inexpensive) out there on the subject or any good websites on the subject? I'm hungry for knowledge right now.
