Hey,

I am creating a multi-lingual site. The other languages work fine in Internet Explorer and Firefox, but it appears as random code in Firefox (for example, welcome in Dari becomes خوش Ø¢Ù). Why can't Firefox recognize the foreign language and what should I do to solve this issue?

Thanks.

Try changing your character encoding to UTF-8 or UTF-16.

Some symbols may not show because your computer does not contain the font set and/or your browser is not set to the correct Character Encoding. Changing browser's encoding is usually done from its View Menu.

More than likely the earlier suggestion to change character encoding will work and it is easiest to do quickly anyway. :P

I agree with you. Previously even though I set the browser to be UTF-8 encoding, my web-pages still do not display Chinese characters properly. It is only when I install the East Asian language pack onto the WinXP did Firefox render it correctly.

I don't know for those using Firefox on Linux do they need to install any language pack equivalent in order to see non-English webpage display ?

I didn't actively install any language packs on my computer. Do have some good sets of fonts and all my web pages are using the utf-8 charset tag. Plus, all my browsers, including my email program, are set to use utf-8 encoding. I image I would have to install language packs if I wanted to write those foreign characters for languages, but for now, all of them have displayed just fine in my browser as they were meant to be displayed.

I haven't installed any language packs, and I can see (even if I cannot read) the symbols written in Dari on here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dari_%28Eastern_Persian%29

Wikipedia uses UTF-8 encoding and I'm using Firefox on Windows Vista 64.
