I'm starting a campaign. But I need to hear you people about some thruths that we possibly share.
Just let me know: Why are you against Internet Explorer? Explain your reasons with the maximum of details.
Anything about cons? Please, also tell me.
Let's talk about standard compliance, security issues, user support, etc...
Discuss.

this has been done before, it never yields anything.

Personally, I love internet explorer...with a side of fava beans. And the only reason I will continue to "love it" is because that's what a lot of my customers use. So IE is kind of like a bad neighbor: I put up with the badness because i have to live next door to them. And when they go to work I'm gonna steal their lawnmower.
Convincing IE users to update to the latest version is the problem (http://yro.slashdot.org/story/10/07/31/0451207/UK-Government-Rejects-Calls-To-Upgrade-From-IE6)

this has been done before, it never yields anything. And furthermore, not only are you preaching to the converted (for the main anyway), IE 8 and IE 9 beta are much better than anything previous, so the need for this is going down rapidly.

Well, yes. Internet Explorer 9 is implementing some HTML5 technologies. Just to show they are actually doing something. But yet, they do just what they want. The web is just how they want to be. Seens like they are doing it to retain costumers. It's really needed to change the perspective of the web users. We develop web pages thinking "IE Compatibilty". We, developers, need standards. The web must be a fluidly evolving technology. And the ones in this market - or whatever you want to call it - should follow the standards. Do not understand it as radicalism, just face that the web would be much more than it is. And we are ready to it, but not the Internet Explorer.

I don't have any issues with IE7+.
I don't support IE6 anymore.
If you use validated HTML and CSS then you should have very few, if any, problems.

i think many web designers/developers really do hate IE6 really though the newer version of IE such as 8 and 9 (which getting released soon) have kind of got a bit better over the years especially IE9 which is supposed to be more standards compliant :)
Personally I think it is IE6 that is the real culprit here.

Indeed, its IE6 that is the main issue for me too. IE7 and up work perfectly fine, its 6 that has limits of :hover support, half implemented css features, terrible dom rendering and slow as hell at it, issues with infinite z-index for html menu items...etc. The list goes on and on. 7 still has issues, but at least they are quite workable, some of the ie6 issues i run into can only be fixed with a display:none.

I don't know enough to have real reasons, I just know that whenever I write code it works fine in Firefox and Chrome and breaks in Internet Explorer, a lot. Maybe I'm just a bad coder, but still... it's annoying.

From the client side, IE is very slow compared to Chrome and Firefox. From the developer side, IE lacks support for many CSS elements or renders them "less prettier" than other browsers.

I agree with that. I only use Firefox: it runs smooth, doesn't crash, and looks way better than IE

Hey, don't get down on yourself. You're not a bad coder. Microsoft's idea that a billion lines of code is manageable, and practical, is what makes MS, the bad coders.
However, I too, do not support IE6, as it makes me vomit in my mouth. I'm hardly impressed with IE's ability to adapt to new implementations. Is everyone aware that while webkit and gecko are making progress in CSS3, ie just figured out how to make text-shadows? It's ridiculous how these markets work, open source shouldn't be a crime! But it should be a crime to make a website with beautiful rounded corners, 1px text shadows, and gradients, then have to make a completely separate adaptation for IE!
The average user doesn't care. Their lack of knowledge, and understanding/caring, makes a hellish situation for us developers. Too bad, but thats life!
