hi,
i had to reinstall windows xp in my computer but i dont have the disk with the drivers so i got them from the support page. However, after i installed the sound drivers and restarted, the screen got very dark in both bios and windows. The image is there its just its so dark you can barely see it. I tried everything even by adjusting the bright controls but no result. Can someone please help me?
thank you.
it's because some incompatibility issue, and if you have warranty, make it valid. You need to start your windows in safe mode, then go back to old driver in your hardware device manager. And it should boot normal again.

The warranty is over already and i did uninstall the drivers in safe mode but still cant get the screen back to normal. I find really strange that the screen is very dark even at the bios because drivers are supposes to affect windows only.
I have a friend who had issues with it's screen and they started due to some problem with electricity, i think an overcharge or something like that. And other friend i have had problems because his pc was old and the graphics chipset began to fail, and he had to change the chipset but it was very expensive and hi preferred to buy a new pc.

Yes, i believe the reason is because the computer is too old, but the weird thing is that the screen got like that right after installing the drivers and restarting it.
Do you have another monitor available to test? At least you'd be able to see if it's monitor or PC related.
The problem is that as it's also dark in the BIOS, as well as Windows, it's unlikely to be a driver issue.
Back to basics, it might be worth double checking that the monitor cable is in properly :)
Also, if you have the know how and you've got a dedicated graphics card, it might be worth re-seating it.

Its a laptop so i dont think the problem is related to any cable. As you say, the problem should not be related to any drivers either because its in the bios as well. It might be just a coincidence.
