I have been a web Developer for nearly 3 years. My goal in life is to get out of this rat race, and create a site that brings in money while I pursue other goals.
I don't know if it's my lack of experience as an entrepreneur or because of the economy, but I have not been able to generate a penny from any of the sites I created by myself. Has anyone been successful at being their own webmaster? Does anyone have their own business that doesn't involve freelance work?

I'm afraid I'm going to be stuck working for companies forever.

 What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, I actually went down the same path - I started selling merchant accounts along with every e-commerce website I built, and pretty quickly built up a nice passive income. I looked for something that would generate some good passive income for years before I hit on something that worked - payment processing services worked out perfectly.
