Hi

I'm a non-professional graphic designer, and I was wondering if anyone would like some graphics work done. If so, please visit my site at

www.drstrangelove.co.uk (http://www.drstrangelove.co.uk)

There are many wallpapers which can be used for free, along with other peices of work, which are all free.

Many Thanks

I like the plain navigation but the colours (the BRIGHT blue) makes a visit to the site a bit tough on the eyes... I stopped browsing because of that...

Yeah, I agree. The colors need to be toned back a little bit, in my opinion. Other than that, looks OK.

Which colours are you guys not happy with? The pale blue background(s)?

Okay, it works now.

Were you being sarcastic by calling that pale? That colour is neon.

Oohh... Very hard on the eyes, that site. Loose the blue background, or fade it out a lot... I agree with momomo, I had to leave the site, due to the background.

OK, I'll have it toned down by the weekend

The colour scheme has been changed to a lighter colour set.
I would appreciate any comments

Much better. (the colors I mean). But you could even downgrade the colors to plain white, makes the site look more profesional.

I tried white before, and I didn't like the outcome.

Any opinions on the wallpapers on the site?

Ok, I checked you web site a little more deeply. I have to tell you that the wallpapers are excellent. I also liked very much the monolith. There is no much else I can say about this.
I think that you should keep going till you reach 1000!!!

About the web site, is looking ok, there are no mayor problems there. A few tips:

1: The menu. I will put there a javascript version of the same menu, with the posibility of putting tagged menus, for example inside gallery will be the four options under, etc. If you want some code for doing this I can send it to you, just email me, it's free for use. You can see an example of this working at my web site (that I started redesigning) or at www.nijlandshopsystems.nl (that I builded).

2: Try to see how it looks if you put the borders of the table at just 1 and not 4 or 5 as you have now, just try, if it doesn't look nice go back to the old way.

3: The latest table in the right of the web site is great, but I will put it off in the rest of the pages (leaving it on the home page), like that you have more space to put the rest of the content. This table makes all the pages look repetitive.

4: Try to put at the bottom of every page normal referencial links made with text. This will help you very much in the indexing by the search engines. (as now you have links with images in the menu and when spiders get to your home page can't find the rest of the pages, only those in normal links). Every site I build has this).

I can't think of anything else for now, but in overall the site looks good, the wallpapers and your work, even better!

Cheers.

Thanks for the input

1. I want to keep the menu as it is. Simple = Easy to maintain/Less to go wrong

2. I tried making the borders look smaller. I prefer the way it is

3. Thanks, I'll remove those as soon as possible

4. I used to have one of these menu's but I didn't impliment it on this site for some reason.

Thanks very much for you time.

No problem, my time has to go back sometimes (after a few questions from myself of course!).

I still recommend you to change to a javascript version of the menu, is much much simplier to keep up with and looks much better than the one you have now (and it has the possibility of include rollovers -images- as menus). Go to my web site to see how the one I have works: http://www.epsiloncreations.com

It's only one file that you put the links and all the pages will be updated automatically. It only takes 5 minutes to set up.

Remember, if you ad a new page, with your current menu you will need to change it in all pages!!!

After I found this solution I stick with it as has saved me lot of time and looks great.

Post a reply when you have changed the tables in the left side and/or made some changes, I look fowards to check it out and use some of your wallpapers in my PCs.

Cheers.

PD: If you need the code just ask me or search for one that you like in dynamicdrive, javascriptsource or javaworld.

Your webpage is the perfect example of HOW NOT to use JavaScript.

10-15% of websurfers today have JS turned off (and for good reasons) and your site navigation partially breaks for those visitors.

Besides all the advantages you bring up is avauilable through normal plain HTML and/or CSS which is much less likely to break.

Stefan: You are right about what you say. I'm putting off people with JS off. But actually is the same to say: "Don't make Flash Sites! You will put off 25% of the people because they don't have the player!"
Althought there are ways in HTML and CSS to make it look similar using layers for example, is not exactly the same, takes more time to build it and is not as graphicaly pleasing as some JS codes. Also JS is much simplier to keep up, you just change one option in 30 seconds while in HTML you need to change it in all pages. I'm a graphic designer, not a programer, so I don't worry too much about that 10% of people who can't use the left menu, they still can use the bottom HTML menu (there is a reason why is there).
I would like to know if there is a some code that detects if JS is on or off and present a HTML alternative, but I didn't find it yet and I can't write it by myself as I wouldn't know where to start.
Also remember that not so much people turn off javascript, the normal people who doesn't know nothing about internet doesn't, and they are my target.

Dr.Strangelove Your site looks much better with the left table not there, now you have more space for the content of each page and you can re-arrange it in a different way if you want.

Cheers.

Don't you mean the right?

I use the Dreamweaver Library function, so I can update all the pages quickly, so i'd prefer to stick with what I have (and know). Thanks all the same.

Eh?!? Graphics is images and don't look better if you use plain HTML, CSS, JS or any other way to add them to your page.
And how things look using CSS is limited only by your imagination and browserbugs (which is the same limitations as for JS).

No you don't. You might want to brush up you basic HTML skills a bit. You obviously have no clue about what you can and what you can't do with HTML alone.

It's not very bright to rely on a technology that breaks in 10-15% of your visitors browsers when perfectly fine alternatives exsists that will work in 99.9%.
