A lil chat box on my front page

I've seen some sites that have little chatting boxes on the sides where you can chat with anyone on the site. does anyone know the code for that?

ok what u can do, is i got one on my site, www.modfreaks.host.sk um if u wnat eth script tehn just reply back, it is simple to use, but there are little thigns liek the smile faces that u aslo ahve to have just tell me if u wnat the script

This will require a server side langauge and a data base. Did you mean a shout box like at the site linked above, or a live chatroom? They will both reqire server side scripts, but I ask this because a live chat will need an applet, or it will be annoying w/ a meta refresh.
