Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : menus, tables, and webbots
Hi. I just realized that certain search engines have my site listed with the descrip. being what's in the left menu (the first table), which is no good. It's doing this on my other sites aswell:(
So now I have to figure out how to redesign the pages so the left column is not seen so early by the bots.
any suggestions, like something I can do to feed the webots what I want them to read and log before they get to the text on the left?
On another site, it's also showing the top menubar, ie the words of the links (forum contact help), and that's it. I don't know what to do?
I could use a button menu, but I want some decent looking buttons, or is there some kind of menu that webbots won't read, so they'll go straight to meat rather than chew on hair?
Please help.

are you using meta tags, the meta description and keywords tags in particular?
You betcha. I also read recently that to improve your ranking (eventhough meta tags are apparently becoming obsolete) you can leave out the commas in the keyword tags, so I'm gonna try that also. But I also tested about six different bot-simulators, and they all did the same thing google's done, as the first 25 or so words: "home contact about help atrticles welcome to the unofficial home page of..."

huh... could you post a link. Might just be an error somewhere in your code.
Sorry I didn't do that earlier.
The first one is: (and what it says on google):
Ghostchild's politics and law resource
Visitors, Forum, Great Story, Links, Home, Site Map, Computers, Contact Us. Note:We also have a links section devoted to Constitutions and Treaties of the world...

The other site is
the Unofficial homepage of Indian Moon Ravenstone

you'll notice I used alt tags to contain what I would like the webbots to pick up, (I read somewhere that that's acceptable. but I think I'll be changing that. This website also said it's a good idea to leave commas out of the descrip tag, so I'm gonna try that)

The first one gives me a 404, but the second one part of the problem is you are nesting tables left and right. You might not want to move to a css layout, but you do not need to be nesting tables as much as you are. This will make your code unorganised, inacessable, and can noticably increace the download times on your pages for dial up users.
Well, the seond one was a template I got from http://oswd.org, and I've decided to change the entire layout, as it's much more convenient.
and the second one, the link was supposed to be
http://ghostchild.com/politicaltools.htm
You can take a look if you want, but I just made a button menu.
Thanks.
