Hi has anyone had any success with setiing up domain name services on their website? I would like to add domain name services to my site such as whois and the ability to purchase domain names. I would assume that an easy method would be to sign up for openSRS - but has anyone had succss via another method? If so, what method?

Thanks

Well, with the competition today in the Niche of domain registration it's going to be hard to compete with the bug guys. Maybe make a specific domain name relating to a low volume search keyword, 10k searches a month, and target them for awhile and then expand. This would be my idea for a new domain registration company. You're also going to need a license to authorize these domain registrations. Hope this helps Rel82me!

I will be attempting the same thing. I dont want to be a "Domain Name Registration Company", rather offer my customers an option to check domain name availability and possibly register an availible name, without leaving my site. I'm not adding it to make money, rather as a convienence to my customers or potential customers. I'm hosting in Godaddy shared windows hosting(I know, ughhh right.. ), so I may see if Godaddy just has a add in or affiliate module. Would be interested in hearing what others have done.

This a common mistake. You would choose a niche having high competition and after a year when you will feel you have not earn enough, you will give up. Starting a business is not a big issues, running it and earning from it in a long term is a point of concern.

We've done it, as a part of the service we offer.
It was relatively easy, as we've been presented with an API, courtesy of the registrar - all we had to do is to implement it.
You might want to look for registrars that offer the same.

If you want Free Starter website then I will recommend http://www. HelloDello. com

They offer lots of free stuff including a picture album, free blog and more so you will not have to pay for monthly hosting fees for basic services.

Yahoo was a good domain registrar but I think they are hiking the renewal fee on domain registration to $34. 99 a year. Hello Dello charges much less.
