How SEO help in promoting to marketing field. I want to know about it because i am start new small business. I need to promote my new business and what would you think better for promotion of my business. I need your help as soon as possible?

Well unfortunately what SEO has become is nothing more than paid spamming. That's all these thousands of so called SEO companies do, they pay someone some pittance of money to spam your link all over the web. Unfortunately it hurts your company's reputability. So today, SEO = Spam.

Very funny, JPnyc. And Virgo, I think that JPnyc posted the above to provoke other members to jump in the conversation. If SEO is equal to spam, then what all are we doing here?! Anyway, I think that you need to read up on your own in the subject of SEO. We all know how frustrating it is in the very beginning. I suggest that you google SEO immediately and learn as much as you can, then decide what to do. If you need just the traffic to new site, then I believe there are other forums where you can learn more about the social media strategy. At any rate, good luck, Virgo.

That's what it once meant, yes, and what it SHOULD mean. Now it's confused with SEM (marketing) and all these companies do is spam. I see several hundred of them each week. I'm not guessing about this, I deal with it daily.

Virgo, SEO means search engine optimization. When we say search engine I know you're familiar with google, yahoo, bing etc. In order for you to raise or increase the number of visitors of your site it should be easily found on these search engines, that includes modifying the meta tags on your site, the contents, image alts etc. It helps increase the promotion of your site because users(buyers/customers/clients let's say) can easily found your site in these search engines.

To summarize, what SEO is SUPPOSED to mean is, making your site as easy to crawl and index by search engine bots, as possible, and getting the keywords you want to be known by, where bots place high importance in your page. Using your title tag to your advantage, semantic markup including alt and title attributes, text links and keyword rich content around them

That's the theory (although extremely abbreviated and condensed). In practice nowadays it pretty much means "hired spammer".
