Ages ago, we attempted the WebDeveloper's Guide to HTML. I'm almost done a book called Website Creation In Plain English spawned by that failed attempt. My only question is:

Should it be published as a hard-copy book?

Should it be published as a CD containing the chapters as webpages?

Why not both?

How about an e-book? You can then sell it (or give it away) at all the main e-book sellers: Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, etc. (I believe Amazon still pays 70% royalties on e-books between $2.99 and $9.99.) If it shows enough sales you can then think about print-on-demand.

PS: A couple e-book tools to look at: Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/), MobiPocket Creator (http://www.mobipocket.com/en/downloadsoft/productdetailscreator.asp).

I'd thought of that--but with a hardcopy book, I'd include a CD with a bunch of example webpages, and I don't think you can do that with an e-book. If I did it by CD, I'd take advantage of it BEING a webpage--particularly in some examples. That's why I've not really considered both.

You could host the sample code on the web, and put a link in the e-book to it. (I read almost exclusively on my Kindle these days, thus my pushing of e-books. :) )

Same here, read through my kindle quite a bit, so an ebook would be ideal imo.

I read almost exclusively on my ipad. Though I have been known to order hard copies of good reference material for those rare times the power is out and the battery is low. :)
