Hey i was wondering if it was easy to create message boards or forums using PHP , ASP etc. I have access to only 2 server side lanuages PHP and CGI on my server. I was wondering if anybody could direct me to a step by step tutorial how to make a professional looking one and what programs are needed.

If you are looking for a complete forums, I would suggest you get a pre-made one. PHPBB (http://www.phpbb.com/) is pretty nice...

If you want to make it from scratch go out to barns and noble, or books a million or any other good store of your choice, and browse for a nice big tome of knowledge on the technolgy you choose.

Easy is a subjective term. It is going to depend how your knowledge of the chosen technology, and the desired complexity of the forums. A simple forums would not be all that hard to create, but a full featured forums (such as this one) is going to take much more work and knowledge.

You said it. I am still working on mine, It will not be ready for quite some time, so it is on the back burner and I am redoing my sites layout for now.

That depends on who you learn it from and your past scripting experience.
