adding a movie to my website

What is the best format for posting movies on the web I am currently using WMV format..Is there any disadvantage to using WMV extentions.Is it a formate that can be viewed on all computers.....

I've yet to find a way of adding movies to web pages that works... Different platforms like different file types, and even when I tried one of the supposed fixes it didn't work on an IE5 machine... I prefer to use a flash conversion - do a google search, or look for Kibisis - it works, but you have to pay for it.

There are two ways used primarily, the object tag, and the embed tag. Embed for ie, object for ns and opera. You might need to just do a browser detect server side to see what the user has. WMV format will be fine, it is pretty well accespted these day, But I would use avi or mpeg as my first choice.

I've tried a lot of these 'fix all' methods and always been flooded with emails saying they don't work. That's why I gave up and went to a flash movie instead. At least they're better supported.
