I got "Designing With Web Standards" By Jeffrey Zeldman, and "PHP, Fast&Easy Web Development" Second Edition! PeOfEo 12-25-2003, 02:05 PM I got a p4 2.6 ghz w/ 512k cache, 800mhz fsb and hyperthreading. I got it a month ago as an early gift. Mary christmas you guys. fredmv 12-25-2003, 02:24 PM Thanks and the same to you. Merry Christmas everyone. :D Sux0rZh@jc0rz 12-25-2003, 05:41 PM Originally posted by PeOfEo I got a p4 2.6 ghz w/ 512k cache, 800mhz fsb and hyperthreading. Well I got a shiny nickel and a pretty balloon! beat that! nah seriously tho i got socom II and I didnt even play it and i know it kicks ass. (cant play.. no memory card. lost mine.) and a watch.. and an mp3 player.. and 150$ prepaid mastercard.. and a buncha candy... and some RC toy(grandparents. ima return it before it breaks.) and a buncha cologne and clothes and a belt from my GF's dad. he apparently doesnt like me walkin around with my pants around my ankles. your gift was still better than my stuff peofeo. *cries* PeOfEo 12-26-2003, 12:13 AM Well it is pretty sexy :P But its because I was giving my old processor to my brother for his comp that I built him (just to be cost affective since I wanted a new processor anyway) this old one, a p4 1.7ghz 256, 433, still sells for 100 bucks so mine was only + 65 to that since we got it on sale. AdamGundry 12-26-2003, 04:37 AM Merry Christmas, everyone. I'm getting a router, but it hasn't arrived yet (grr...) Adam PeOfEo 12-26-2003, 12:04 PM Originally posted by AdamGundry Merry Christmas, everyone. I'm getting a router, but it hasn't arrived yet (grr...) Adam you get broadband to go with that router? 96turnerri 12-26-2003, 12:19 PM i just got money so im going to mod my computer like mad the proccesssor hasnt been updated in about 3 years lol, only a 450mhz seen this nice motherboard bundle comes with 1gb 333mhz ddr ram and amd 3.5ghz, cant wait for new year role on P.A.R.T.Y.:D AdamGundry 12-27-2003, 08:45 AM I've got broadband (over USB modem), but I'm getting the router so I can share the connection over the home LAN. I'm also going to buy a new PC next year, something which is actually capable of playing games without falling over. They base them on pentium. Sux0rZh@jc0rz 12-27-2003, 03:19 PM Originally posted by PeOfEo 3500+ you mean? it isnt really 3.5ghz, it just has equivalent bandwidth to a 3.5 p4. (hes got this guage in the front that says case temperature and cpu temperature) not positive on that tho. im over my dads right now so i cant go check. anyways, DIZAM that computer ownz. he's got like 4 180 gig HDs in it too. i think the C drive is a skuzzy but im not sure if its 180 or not cause i dunno if they make 180 skuzzy's yet. anyways, ha peofeo. beat that. btw we also have a 4mbps wireless cable network. its split between 5 computers but 2 are almost never online and his computer can take over our bandwidth whenever his comp needs it. EDIT: i think it was at 40 celcius before he put in the water coolant stuff. i think with the water coolant he can drop it down to below 0, but you wouldnt want that cause you'd cause condensation which would mess up ur computer. PeOfEo 12-27-2003, 06:19 PM I have overclocked my processor to 3.3 ghz. I can probably do more, but why push it. I have a copper heat sink fan on this. I have something claled core center on this motherboard that allows me to setup my hsf like a thermastat with the processor temp. 40 celcius is ok, its about 104 fahrenheit. I generally site at about that temp too, except when I have my fan turned down, noise and all, I get up to maybe 60 at my max. PS: building a comp is not that hard, I built mine, and my brother's. I also have a front temp display and a vantec nexus 3.5'' fan controler. Aren't you just so impressed?? anyways, ha peofeo. beat that. btw we also have a 4mbps wireless cable network. its split between 5 computers but 2 are almost never online and his computer can take over our bandwidth whenever his comp needs it.Wow, your modest, too. Sux0rZh@jc0rz 12-27-2003, 07:23 PM Originally posted by AdamBrill Well my second cousin's roomate's uncle's son's dog has a "blah blah blah". (60 degrees isnt much, but its still more damaging than 40C) also he has a heat sink on his but i dont know if its a copper heat sink or not. the only reason he clocks his is because he is constantly macro'ing 2 online ultima accounts and almost always downloading some movie or another and burning dvds all the time and its still excessively fast but i guess he hates waiting. mostly i think he just went all out so he doesnt have to buy another computer(in the next 3 years with how fast it is). 96turnerri 12-27-2003, 08:03 PM Originally posted by PeOfEo 3500+ you mean? it isnt really 3.5ghz, it just has equivalent bandwidth to a 3.5 p4. BTW a intel processor by nature runs cold, and intel processors are kind of hard to burn. One interesting face, the northwood architecture is scalable up to 10ghz, the only problem is finding a way to cool it. The most a p4 has even been over clocked to is 4.5 ghz I believe. AnacondaAndy 12-28-2003, 06:44 AM Originally posted by Sux0rZh@jc0rz so he doesnt have to buy another computer(in the next 3 years with how fast it is). ...by the time three years are up...that computer is going to be a dinosaur!!! At least at the pace stuff are being developed today...;) 96turnerri 12-28-2003, 09:13 AM why is everyone on about overclocking proccessors?, most a p4 has been overclocked to is 4.5ghz, well my dad has a p4 4.75ghz, so that beaten that without even overclocking it AdamBrill 12-28-2003, 11:58 AM Originally posted by 96turnerri well my dad has a p4 4.75ghzI would find that much easier to believe if they made a 4.75GHz P4... Sux0rZh@jc0rz 12-28-2003, 03:06 PM Originally posted by AnacondaAndy ...by the time three years are up...that computer is going to be a dinosaur!!! The most a p4 has even been over clocked to is 4.5 ghz I believe. i think i read about that.. someone was able to clock 2 cpu's in a dual processor comp up to 4.5 each and they had the same water coolant system my stepdads got. i bet if they used just one they could clock to 5+ using that water coolant system, cause like i said, it can drop temperatures to below 0 if you put it on full power.(that'd be stupid cause if you did that, you run the risk of it malfunctioning and your cpu would heat up extremely fast and fry itself) PeOfEo 12-29-2003, 12:32 AM they do not make a p4 4.75 ghz. But they do have p4s with a 2mb l3 cache now. http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=19-116-166-02.jpg http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-166&catalog=343&depa=1 only $1,019.00 what a bargain. I dono that 64bit amd is looken pretty nice too though. That 4.5 was not water cooled, they had one of those refrigerator things, i forget that their called... um... pigglets? But the thing ended up burning up eventually. AdamBrill 12-29-2003, 07:32 AM Originally posted by PeOfEo they do not make a p4 4.75 ghz. But they do have p4s with a 2mb l3 cache now.Yes, I knew about that, but that's still far from 4.75GHz. ;) The fastest P4 on the market right now is 3.2GHz, so they have some serious work to do before getting even close to a 4.75GHz... AdamBrill 12-30-2003, 09:20 PM Originally posted by PeOfEo The most a p4 has even been over clocked to is 4.5 ghz I believe. Well, there is a new record now. ;) Someone overclocked a P4 3.2GHz to 5.255GHz. :D They used liquid Nitrogen to keep the heat down to -196°C. :D Take a look at the article: http://www20.tomshardware.com/cpu/20031230/index.html PeOfEo 12-30-2003, 11:23 PM holy crap. Well most of us cannot afford to make our own little absolute 0 chambers for our processors though :p. If they can find an efficient way to cool the northwood architecture, the sky is the limit. But still I am running 512k l2 cache, imagine 2 meg l3, it would sure as heck seem like 4.75 meg :p. Cache is infinatly faster then ram because it is right on the processor and all. 96turnerri 01-03-2004, 09:00 AM you would be surprised what you can get hold of when you dad's best m8 is andrew s. grove, and for those who dont know who that is thats the EX-CEO of Intel AdamBrill 01-03-2004, 11:57 AM Originally posted by 96turnerri you would be surprised what you can get hold of when you dad's best m8 is andrew s. grove, and for those who dont know who that is thats the EX-CEO of Intel ...and for those of you who don't know, CEO's are not magical, and they can't get stuff that doesn't exist. Sorry, 96turnerri, I cannot believe that your dad has something that the rest of the world doesn't know exists. Nice try, though. 96turnerri 01-03-2004, 02:53 PM thats ok not many people do believe me until they come round and see it, o well doesnt matter anyway, your right CEOs are not magical AdamBrill 01-03-2004, 06:14 PM Yes, I would think that most people would believe Intel over you, and since they say that the fastest is 3.2GHz, I'm believing them. Sorry... AdamBrill 01-03-2004, 06:19 PM BTW, are you sure it isn't a dual processor? If that is the case, then I totally believe you, but if you are talking a single processor, then I can't believe that... 96turnerri 01-04-2004, 08:22 AM il speak to him when he comes back from work PeOfEo 01-04-2004, 09:00 PM whats all this talk about ceos not being magical? PeOfEo 01-04-2004, 09:30 PM hes a magical ceo... WITH THE POWERS OF A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER! YEA! Plus he is a good dancer. AdamBrill 01-04-2004, 09:49 PM Originally posted by PeOfEo hes a magical ceo... WITH THE POWERS OF A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER! YEA! Plus he is a good dancer. Yeah, and better yet, he doesn't mind looking dumb for a camera/crowd. If a speaker that I went to listen to would act like him, I would just get up and leave right then... PeOfEo 01-04-2004, 09:52 PM nahhh, you would stay for the laughs ;). Chris farley and his "van down by the river" skit was great, I can picture Ballmer doing it. AdamBrill 01-04-2004, 10:12 PM Some of us don't think that someone else making a fool out of himself is funny. While I might have laughed had I been there, my thoughts would have been on how much of a fool he is making himself look like. When going to listen to a CEO of a large corporation, I would expect a serious speach, not "dance, monkey boy." I think I would have left quite disappointed. PeOfEo 01-04-2004, 10:48 PM he is a puppet leader. :p. It is a constitutional monarchy if you will (well a tyranny with a figure head). Look at their board of directors, they are pulling the strings. They figured out he was the balding middle aged man that looks jolly and is willing to do the comic releaf so they gave him the title. If a sweaty middle aged man is not magic... I do not know what is. AdamBrill 01-04-2004, 11:01 PM From processors to "magical Steven A. Ballmer." I love this forum's off-topic ability. PeOfEo 01-04-2004, 11:04 PM this is sort of an ideal thread for it though. No problems were getting solved to begin with here. Its not like someone has unanswered questions from the beginning (unless you are questioning my sanity) webdeveloper.com
