I thought we needed a thread with solutions for the problem of flash and the iphone/ipad. Does anybody have a way to make embedding a Youtube video actually work? What about other players and HTML5?

Does anybody have a way to make embedding a Youtube video actually work? What about other players and HTML5? Eye for Video 02-24-2011, 02:40 PM One solution is to use swfobject for Flash detection and play the Flash video for browsers with the Flash plugin or play an alternate version of the video for browsers with no Flash, like the iPhone/iPad. Here is a working example of playing Flash video on the iPhone.... well sort of: http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/qt/play_qt.html If Flash plugin is detected, plays the Flash video, if not, plays the .mov version. Also illustrates how to sandwich Flash between 2 layers of HTML... that's why the text looks a little funny. View the source code for details. Info on swfobject here: http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/ Best wishes, Eye for Video www.cidigitalmedia.com incredible1 03-22-2011, 12:17 PM Yeh there are some nice html5 players available now videojs has one flowplayer and jwplayer both have html5 option. free html5 player has one http://freehtml5player.com hdwebplayer 03-24-2011, 05:51 AM Hey Guys! There is a Best Video Player from Joomla to support both Flash & Html5. Check it Here (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/multimedia/multimedia-players/video-players-a-gallery/15664). Also check the working example in http://hdwebplayer.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49&Itemid=29 The Speciality with this component is, it can support Both Flash & Html5. It doesnot require any technical Knowledge. Initially the component has support for .mp4 / Youtube / Dailymotion Videos in IPhone / IPad / Android. But One Hard thing is HTML5 support is restricted in the free version and available only with the commercial version. Cheers! webdeveloper.com
