On the right side, there is a gradient-like transistion from text to image.
Example (http://www.forgottendetroit.com/national/index.html)
I'd like to try it, but I need to know what it is first:)

Not sure what you mean exactly, but it is just a JPEG image that was probably created in Photoshop (or another image editor) and this graphic is placed in a table next to the text.

If I were doing it that would be a background image positioned right in a div with paragraphs aligned left and given 50-75% width.

I nabbed an image off Google, and just used a simple gradient to get that affect. I'd show you, but my FTP program seems to be going all anal on me.

actually... it doesnt look like a simple fade. it looks to be not of a straight line.. like the simply got the spray can and sprayed the layers themselves cause its a chopy and crooked fade..

And the answer is.....
------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually its more simple. I took the Photoshop paint brush at size 300 and color white and brushed up and down just to the left of the image. Thus I ended up with only the edge of the brush actually affecting the image and the result is what you see.
hope that helps.

If you mean the example image you showed us, it's not crooky at all - your eyes fool you. It's a perfectly straight gradient, but since the brightness is different in the parts of the image affected by the gradient, it looks like the gradient is crooked and twisted.

Hi,
I think this effect my be called in a different name in different software followed with different techniques. But this is some kind of Gradient effect. If you are using photoshop you can create in many ways. Out of them i m telling one ways that is layer masking.
Layer Masking: Take the background layer in the same gradient colour. Place the image on 1st layer. Then select the portion of the image to be masked (select the feather little bit) then select the layer masking button. On the 2nd layer write the text. You will get the same look.
Have fun with images(Adobe Photoshop).
To me it looks like a radial gradient going from white to transparent. In Photoshop, all you'd have to do is select the gradient tool, select radial, and then put in white on the left side and transparent on the right side for the colors, then click and drag. Looks pretty simple to me.
