slow loading images

I just saw a site with a 61k image that loaded in a milisecond.
I struggle to get 9k images to load this quickly. Are there any tricks, other that reducing the quality of images to get them to load faster?

I had to reduce the quality of images on a great site.

Welcome to the forums.

I'd say it's one of two things causing this: Poorly optimized images. You have a slow server.So, as you said, you may want to optimize your images if you want them to load faster. Or, if that isn't the case, get on a faster server.

Yeah I know. I have netfirms. There a good server. I also have comcast cable-very fast

But your visitors may very well be on a slow dial-up connection... 61k is FAR too large for an image!
