Hi, I have a couple of questions, please, which have probably been asked many times, but a search didn't find any thread answering them.

I have been using free web hosting provided by my ADSL provider, and I am now considering buying some paid hosting and my own domain name. I plan to buy from the same provider (I am happy with them) but their domain name registration service is much dearer than I can get elsewhere (it isn't really their core business).

1. Are there any problems purchasing hosting and DN registration from two separate sources? Which one should I buy first? (I think registration needs the IP address, yet buying the hosting will require a domain name.)

2. Some Registrars offer (for an extra fee) "Private Registration" so name address and phone are not made public, but I wondered whether this contravenes anything. Any ideas?

3. Some people say the .info domain isn't well respected. Any thought?

Thanks very much.

Your questions are addressed as follows:

1-There is no problem in purchasing the domain name and hosting company from two different companies. Infact, you should try to crack your own deal by looking for seperate providers. It is often observed that many companies offer very cheap domain names but they charge you very high in hosting and vice versa. So its better to get them from two different provides.

2- Those are add-ons, if you will like to purchase. They up-sell their other products. It really depends on you, if you really need them.

3- About .info domain, i would say it depends on your website. As its say . info, if the website is informative in nature, it suits your domain otherwise it is recommended to have a .com domain.

1. I agree with joe12joe .
2. It doesn't contravenes with anything.
3. Of course a .com domain name is always better than a .info .However,it all depends on your website.

Good Luck !
