Hello everyone, I'm new here and had a general question regarding some of your experiences.

I recently graduated with BA degrees in English and Philosophy and have decided that I now want to pursue a more technical degree in order to potentially become a web developer/designer. I have some general experience and knowledge but would like to go back to school for more formal training.

My question is, for a web development type of gig, would you suggest going to a technical school which offers a web development bachelors of science or to a 4-year university and study for a general computer science degree. The technical school also offers an associates degree in web development, but I fear that won't branch too much past what I'm already familiar with. Would stopping at an associates in Web Development be worth the time/money without going further for a Bachelors?

Thanks for the help and advice!

I personally would go for the technical school.

No point in doing another degree ... Yawn!

I agree, go for technical school, if you need to learn the skills. Build your portfolio and start creating sites, that is what will get you work. If you can show a client examples of your work, that is far better in web dev, than some bits of paper hanging on the wall, because quite frankly, end clients dont care about degrees and companies shouldnt unless they're fools.

Hah, I don't need a degree to tell me I'm a pro- that's what my big ego is for, hold on let me ask it:

Life is short man, don't waste your time and money by giving it away. You know you're going to end up doing some "unpaid internship" AKA you pay them to be their slave. Teach yourself; its less embarrassing, cheaper, and you don't have to do someone else's work.

Couldn't even teach me where to put the commas. what sentence fragment is

Edit: coolface

Since you are entering this field without a relevant educational background, it would be best to pursue a full-fledged computer science degree (http://www.cc-sd.edu/information-technology/bachelors/computer-science-networking-emphasis). A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science will enhance your current experience, give you a strong foundation in networking, programming, server administration, IT security concepts etc, giving you the knowledge, training and credentials for professional success in a way that a technical school would not.
