Hey guys. I'm an excellent web programmer, but I lack ability with creating graphics. I'm good at edidting things, if I have a base. But , when it's comes to making them, I'm lost. I just recently got Photoshop 7, and I was wondering if anyone can give me advice or tips on making good quality images, you know, like the secrets and such of the program.

Thanks!

Yo man what you need is good tutoraial but if you know all the tools in Photoshop then yuo need to go and see some other designers sites. That might give you the idea of what your site should look like.

I'd start with a search for photoshop tutorials on Google. You'll find tons of stuff to give you a good foundation.

bruno, if you have specific effects or needs, let me know. if you pose a question like "how do i make a GEL style button like the ones on Apples web site"?? than i can help. The more general you are the harder it is to formulate an answer...

i've been working with PS since ver2.5 and basically, it's been my livelyhood for years!

You can make very simple images like flat tabs and still have a professional look if you keep to a few simple layout design rules...
Align everything with something else on the page
Use 3-4 main colors on your site and stick to those
Organize the information and split it up into shaded cell tables for example.
Don't put dark text over dark bkgrnds.
Give an apropriate amount of white space around elements.
etc.
For specific photoshop effects search for forums on the subject, I've come across them but don't have any handy, sorry.
Adobe does sell some good books too on PS, but the ones that come with the software are crap.
That's all just my opinion though and I am guilty of making a gel button or two ;) but I wouldn't get too hung up on it. Start simple and clean with page design. That might not help your original question though. Sorry.

hey bruno,
you mean like the Cel shading in animation or anime style??

Ya' know like flat colour with highlights and shadow but not gradient like an "airbrush" style??

if so, yea, i can give ya' pointers or "step-by-step"...

let me know,
:)
