Table and cells with BG

Why when you add a table background w/o CSS Style does it make the table bigger?

I have cells with CSS bg code and it works when I set the table with CSS too.

I assume you are adding the image inside the table thus the table is accommodating for the contents, other than that you post translation didn't make too much sense.

Since CSS background-image: does not alter the size of a table.
