RAM is probably the most important for graphics and web design I'd say. If I had a digital campera I would take a picture of my comp because I think it looks nice. My cathods can be set to sound reactive, it looks real sweet when I am blaring the van halen. :D edit: http://www.xoxide.com/xdreameriiblue.html thats a newer vers of my case, mine has a biohazard fan gril, not the stupid lil alien, and mine doesnt have those dumb looking lights in the front, just silver nobs. I got in just before they messed it all up :P Good cheap case I must say. Looks like I'll be going with the Dell: Precision 650 Dual 3.06 Xeon 2GB RAM 2x 36gb 15k Drives DVDRW Wildcat Video Card Duel 19" Flat Panels I'll put up a pic in a bout a week or so when it comes in. Mike DaveSW 01-22-2004, 07:05 AM You just can't beat having a ferrari for the school run eh ;) mikejr 01-22-2004, 07:53 AM I just want something that will retire as a decent server in a few years... I don't make enough to buy the cheap stuff, especially when a significant portion of my livelyhood depends on it. Robert Wellock 01-22-2004, 10:04 AM That depends upon what type of server you mean because Apache certainly does need all that. PeOfEo 01-22-2004, 01:18 PM build the comp urself. You will learn, get a better price and you will know what you are getting. mikejr 01-22-2004, 02:25 PM I have built PC's in the past - even built a cluster last year. It is not worth the time and effort to do - my time is very stretched as it is, it would be more expensive for me to build one at this point... Lotus 01-22-2004, 02:58 PM Built this beauty myself recently: Athlon 64 3200+ processor K8V Deluxe motherboard 2x512 MB DDR400-RAM Radeon 9800 XT (yay! HL 2 is mine!) graphics card 160 GB 7200 RPM hard drive Audigy 2 ZS sound card The price was a b-i-t-c-h, but it's proven to be worth it... PeOfEo 01-22-2004, 07:29 PM I just bought a 512 stick of geil gold dragon pc 3200 with a 2.5 cas lat. James L. 01-23-2004, 02:57 AM Both for me, Mac G4 Powerbook and G5 tower for all my real work, and a Dell WinTel system for testing in the PC world. It works out well. The G5 system is the most powerful system in my office, the laptop is great for being portable and still working on design, video editing, burning DVD's, etc. Mac OSX has a built in Apache server with PHP for learning my server side stuff without any need to install any software, and when I take my ASP course in school I have the Dell for that. And, best of all, I only have to have Windows on 1 out of my 3 machines! :D James L. 01-23-2004, 03:03 AM Mikejr, I have used almost the same system you are looking at getting from Dell (the Dual 3.06 Xeon)... it rocked! webdeveloper.com
