With both Jasc PSP and Adobe PS I have not been able to figure out how to make an image that has some stuff in the middle (which is a chess piece) and have a transparent background. I have done it before, but I forgot how to do it, and nothing seems to be working.

If you read this and know the answer, please answers so I don't go kill myself or something.

Thanks, Alan.

In Jasc, go to color, the go to set palette transparency. Now, just set your. Note: this will reduce your colors to 256, also when you save, save as gif or png, so you can have transparency. :D

Yeah PSP requires you to dither to 256 colours, which kind of defeats the point of transparency in PNGs. One app I really like is Ulead PhotoImpact - handles alpha transparency really well, and does a good job of compression (at least version 7, not sure about earlier versions).
