More specifically you didn't say exactly what you wanted reviewing the code the layout the content, etc. screaming_banjo 01-22-2004, 10:47 AM I'm only commenting on the look of your site. I think I had to click 3 times before I got to your login screen, why not have the log in screen right at the start. Too many mouseclicks at the start for no real reason at all are more likely to put your users off. I also think your colours are too wild, the continually changing background made me want to leave. You may want to have a look at this article on 'scary' design: http://webdesign.about.com/cs/webdesign/a/aascaryweb.htm Here is an article on Colour Theory: http://webdesign.about.com/cs/color/a/aacolorharmony.htm Here is another article on Colour Theory and the Colour wheel: http://webdesign.about.com/cs/color/a/aacolortheory.htm Please don't think I'm being rude/patronising, your code is probably beyond anything I could do, however I'm very interested in design and making the design nice, clean and above all easy on the eye.....probably because I have appalling eyesight and I find my eyes get tired easily in front of a PC. iniquity101 01-22-2004, 12:15 PM i dont like the changing background colours after logging in, or the falling dots b4 that. It also takes quite a bit to load. spufi 01-22-2004, 12:51 PM I'll just back up what the others said. You can click on the link below for common web design mistakes because you hit a number of them. Also look at the links I have in my sig for colors to help you find some colors that actually go well together. I'm actually using the Joshua Tree template for colors from the ColorMatch Remix site for my own redesign. PhillMc 01-22-2004, 05:18 PM Aside from agreeing with all above, I jsut have to say one thing. I have a migrane now. You have potential. Keep working at it. PhillMc 01-22-2004, 05:31 PM I went back for further review and just want to let you know the the login isn't too secure. All I had to do was view your source to see that you were linking to a js file in the same dir as the index. From there I downloaded the file and got a list of 5 username/passwords. Just thought you'd like to know. rhsunderground 01-22-2004, 11:00 PM i as well downloaded the .js file, which also let me into your massive-huge very strange multiplayer javascript game. and now i am shaking on the floor due to the epileptic seizures caused by the changing background. other than that, the intro spinnie universe thing was cool. chriz 01-23-2004, 11:03 AM Thanks for all your reviews! Ill take you advice about the BGcolours. Ill slow them down really slow so that they change but don't give every body seizures when they enter. Thanks. Any idea how to make the password more secure? spufi 01-23-2004, 11:22 AM Originally posted by chriz Thanks for all your reviews! Ill take you advice about the BGcolours. Slowing down the color change will only make it less annoying. It still, however, will be annoying. Pick a color, and stick with it. 2. Use a server side script language like ASP/ASP.NET, or PHP. See what your host offers. chriz 01-23-2004, 11:27 AM OK OK i've took your advice, I have stopped the rotating colours and used an image instead also i have tested it so the text looks good too. Thanks for all your help on making my web more user-friendly PhillMc 01-23-2004, 11:30 AM I will say this. If your host is a free service, then forget about asp/aspx, they wont offer it. Most free providers I've seen will offer PHP (Perl), but that is not in all cases. If none of these are offered, then you'll be forced to do in Client side with JS/VBS. I've seen some pretty tricky password encryption algs, but, it being JS/VBS then not all browsers are going to like your code.:) Good Luck to ya spufi 01-23-2004, 11:45 AM And why does a person need to login anyway? Add on to the color thing, pick one color for your background and use it for all of your pages. This would also go for text, links, etc. as well. Drop the page with the Java applet too. PhillMc 01-23-2004, 01:33 PM Originally posted by spufi And why does a person need to login anyway? ......... Drop the page with the Java applet too. I was wondering that aswell. Why are you requiring logins? If you are planning on adding content which will circulate among selected individuals, then I understand; if you are requiring logins just b/c you can, I would say drop it. I will admit, I kindof liked the firework effect of the applet. However, I think it is overkill to have an effects applet on a page that only has one link. spufi 01-23-2004, 01:38 PM If the applet was on the actual intro page, then yeah, I could understand using it if I were to use an intro page, which I don't. PhillMc 01-23-2004, 01:41 PM Originally posted by spufi If the applet was on the actual intro page, then yeah, I could understand using it.......... Good point. Wish I had thought of it first,:D I just hate intro's though, it's just another 'click' until content. webdeveloper.com
