If you apply for the General (FREE) Solution, it is free. However, they place one ad wherever the <body> tag is on your page. (No body tag=ad on top of page). Once you're hosted and done with your site, I recommend www.dot.tk for a free domain name. -IceMetalPunk ;) PeOfEo 01-30-2004, 06:19 PM brinkster is an abysmal host. Its right up there with geocities in my books of worst hosts. A good host is http://europe.webmatrixhosting.net , because it is ms sponsored hosting for asp.net. It is asp.net only though. Icemetal, you should consider moving, I used brinkster for a short amount of time until I found wmh and I have never been happier. check out what they offer http://europe.webmatrixhosting.net/text.aspx?tmpl=about now compare it to what brinkster offers. Brinkster has crappy support and roaming #500 errors because of a crappy setup, they have no smtp access, no mssql server or mysql, low bandwidth, no support, no code behinds, no global files, no ftp, and horrible ads. Wmh is the opposite in all of those I mentioned. stovellp 01-30-2004, 08:09 PM http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Web_Space/ Thats a list of some of the best free web hosts I've ever seen. And as far as I know, free.hostdepartment.com gives you 100mb of space for free.... Theres also www.beigetower.org PeOfEo 01-30-2004, 09:07 PM space isnt the only thing you should look for in a host... bandwidth is more important. If you have an infinate amount of space and only 1k of bandwidth what good does it do you. Also scripting options, a good host will have atleast one server side technology running on their servers for users to access. Ad supported hosts without this are screwing their users. buntine 01-30-2004, 09:28 PM Furthermore, there is no such thing as good free hosting. It just doesnt exist. I suggest you fork out some cash and get a authentic hosting package. Regards. PeOfEo 01-30-2004, 09:30 PM Originally posted by buntine Furthermore, there is o such thing as a good free host. It just doesnt exist. I suggest you fork out some cash and get some authentic hosting. Regards. well there is one. But it is not free when you think of it. I already mentioned this http://europe.webmatrixhosting.net/text.aspx?tmpl=about Free mssql... where else can you get it? That is because ms pays for this hosting. This isnt ecommerce though, don't expect to draws lots of traffic and make lots of cash. But for personal use they are a wonderful host. contact 01-31-2004, 08:41 AM peofeo your links do not work for me iniquity101 01-31-2004, 09:50 AM they work fine for me go to http://europe.webmatrixhosting.net (the home page) and then click on "full list of available features" to get to where peofeo's link points. PeOfEo 01-31-2004, 10:31 AM Originally posted by contact peofeo your links do not work for me I do not reccomend web matrix hosting unless you actual intend to learn asp.net at some point though, because that is what it is there for. It is a very good host but it is not intended to just host html webpages. DaveSW 01-31-2004, 11:14 AM Originally posted by PeOfEo If you have an infinate amount of space and only 1k of bandwidth what good does it do you. Depends how good your design skills are... and how big your site is. buntine 01-31-2004, 11:17 AM If you only had a small amount of bandwidth, it wouldnt matter how good of a designer you were.. Your BW will be chomped up in no time.. Especially if it was 1k! lol Though, i do see your point ;) DaveSW 01-31-2004, 11:24 AM Well, take www.williamsons-oldham.co.uk for an example. (50 pages) January Stats: Unique Clients: 697 Total requests: 32,934 Data transferred: 104.39MB. No it's not a very graphics heavy design, but that design was what the customer wanted. buntine 01-31-2004, 11:26 AM Thats interesting. Though, i was referring to the fact that you were opposing 1k of bandwidth. It was just a playful post. DaveSW 01-31-2004, 11:54 AM I'm assuming 1K bandwidth = 1000MB/Month, rather than 1KB :D I'm just pointing out that sometimes you don't need mountains of bandwidth. PeOfEo 01-31-2004, 12:02 PM Maybe not, but it is still important to have enough. Even if the site is not a high traffic site like google, you should keep a little extra on hand. So therefore it is just as important to look at the bandwidth rather then just the disk space. I have never made a site that used more then 10 megs including data base space, so disk space is not that important. Hosts linke brinkster give you 16.6 Kb (bit, not byte I believe) of bandwidth per day. 16 / 8 = 2. 2 megabytes. That is not going to last a long time. Ben Rogers 01-31-2004, 12:22 PM [utl=http://www.t35.com]T35.com[/url] isn't too bad. Has PHP... and MySql if you pay $5 for the personal site package, which gives you a tonnage of stuff.... ftp access too. DaveSW 01-31-2004, 02:59 PM Try browsing http://www.freewebspace.net/ - or a google search.... webdeveloper.com
