I am using real player 9 embedded into a site, but I can't find any where that tells me how to prompt the user if they have a version below 9. Or better yet start a download of the latest version for them.

Does anyone know where I can find information regarding this?

LOL yeah... using the real media format I was able to take a 4 Meg video down to 40 k without losing resolution. I did have quicktime first.

Per real audio, the software is supposed to auto update... but I need to prompt users if they have disabled this or using a version less than 9.

Here is the info I got from real audio...
