I have a host, domain, etc...

I am trying to use Coffee Cup 9.5 to get started, but I am completely clueless. My first goal is to get an index page loaded, not lofty, but after an hour of head banging and key stroking, a real goal...

Where do I need to upload the file to?

www.mydomain.com/??????

Should it be named index.html?

find a host. It doesnt have to be index.html, it can be default.html main.html home.html, it just depends on what the hosts default file settings are. search around for web hosts. www.freewebz.com would be my just starting out suggestion.

Every host is slightly different so your host should have a how-to on getting your pages up to your site, generally using FTP but many run WebDAV AKA Frontpage Extensions so you can use Web Folders on Windows.

I have a host, using wellahost.

I have a domain.

I have an html page completed.

I can connect with WS_FTP.

Where do I need to place my "index.html" file in order for it to run when the site is accessed?

If I go to the IP address of the site, I get the message "There is no website configured at this address."

I can open cpanel, but I have no idea what needs to be done from here...

upload the index.html right into the main directory. Then in the control pannel make sure index.html is the default file. For example, on my server (home and host) my default file is not index.html, but rather default.aspx. You can change it to be what you want. So if your host does not have a preset default fily, make sure you have it set to be index.html. If it still doesnt work try going to http://yourdomain.com/index.html
and
http://yoursubdomain.host.com/index.html

If you are using WS_FTP, make sure you load your index page into the public_html folder. Been there, didn't do that. :)

Ok, connect with WS_FTP and tell us the names of the directories you see right there.

Here's a thought;
If you just registered your domain in the past day or two, you may not be able to access it via the URL, as in www.mysite.com. It can (but shouldn't) take a few days for your domain to be listed at the Internet's index computers.
