By ticker i mean scroller, you know those news items like lines of text that move across the screen

....hmm
Can you just answer one question:
What kind of information is so important that you draw attention to it by animating it, and at the same not important enough to give the user time to read it and/or react to it?

please dont waste my time if you have no solution for me then please dont reply with such stupid questions.

I think that is a very valid question to which you have no answer. I'm not wasting your time, but trying to make you realize that you are wasting your time looking for a feature which has no value on a web site.

Many websites use scrollers.
There is plenty of javascript codes available to make them, but i need one that will work on both platforms....
But the most important reason, for which i do have an answer is that my client has strongly requested that i include one on their page.
It is not important what i feel about the relevence of the scroller or you, but that i give the customer what they want!

Then you are not doing your job as a web developer. If you explained to your customer what web is, what good and bad practices are, and if you brought any credibility to the table, your customer would listen.
By simply giving your customer what they want you are doing a sub-par job and your customer is getting a low quality product.

It is possible that you may have a reasonable amount of knowledge regarding web and computer related subjects.
But by presuming to know anything about me, my customers or my work proves that you still are in need of a little overall wisdom.
please dont reply to this, thankyou.

I do not presume anything, I draw conclusions from information provided to me - in this particular case I used the approach known as induction.

Maybe you could elaborate on why it has no value? I don't really see anything wrong with a ticker, as long as it doesn't move too fast, possibly pauses when moused over, and degrades gracefully when JS isn't enabled/available.

Generally because it's not only annoying, but pointless. When the user is trying to read the content and some ticker keeps animating along, it's distracting. Moreover, it's even more annoying and pointless because the user can't simply read the content all in one piece; they have to wait until it scrolls across just enough for them to read it and even still, they might miss the specific part they were waiting for and then have to wait for it to reiterate. It's best to avoid these kind of things if you want your user to have a more enjoyable experience.

Thank you for explanation Fred.
Paul, the question in my second post on this topic contained that answer. ;)

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) on rare occasions, a
customer will (after receiving viable information) remain
rather "pig-headed" and want something silly.
So, anthonyn, I suggest you search the forum(s)
for "marquee" suggestions and you'll find one or more
answers that will probably serve your client(s) well. However,
vladdy did not ask a stupid question; he
probably just phrased it in a way you didn't appreciate.

appreciate your advice there olerag and will try the marquee option you mentioned.
...But remain adamant in my opinion of Vlady, who obviously has a misguided superiority complex.

If nothing else I'm sure www.dynamicdrive.com has plenty of them.

When you can not argue the point, you resort to personal attack.....
You know to a short person everyone else seems tall..... now I understand where this "superiority complex" is coming from.... :D :D :D

No Vlady in this particular case I used the approach known as induction.

Its a pity you were too blind to recognize real help and now there will be one more sucky site on the web.
