Why are peoples feelings on the advantages of xhtml over html or otherwise so varied?
Assuming the MIME type for xhtml 1.0 is text/html and the xhtml validates correctly then there are no disadvantages. Ok, there are no advantages either I understand - so why are some authors so against using xhtml sent as text/html?
Can anyone enlighten me?

No, what we're against is M$ Explorer not being able to accept XHTML as an application of XML.

So why are srticles such as this:
http://diveintomark.org/archives/2003/01/13/semantic_obsolescence
so hottly debated with pros and cons given both ways. Do some people not want the trouble of thinking about xhtml as it makes no discernible difference to them? And suddenly they have to write good code!
Marks kind of approach seems to say,
"Micro$oft can't be bothered with implementing the w3c's standards so why should I?"
Missing the point or what?!
Can anyone point me in the right direction of an article that addresses this in a balanced and relevant way?
Thanks. Bobby.
