I started work as a web designer for a college and 4 networked sites in October last year. Being 17 i really tought this was a good job, ok i don't get paid alot but i am doing something i like and not being a bum like most people my age. At the moment i am signed off work and i went to the doctors to be signed off and he asked what i did, i told him and he had this blank look on his face. But this is not just my doctor it is like no one knows what i do in my job and it is starting to piss me off. i just wanted to know what anyone else thinks about this... anyone who works as a web desinger.
thanks for any input.

I worked as a web developer for most of last year.. I started off designing web sites for local companies but was soon picked up by a larger corporation and put to work as a applications programmer..
It was amazing how far it all got me. I started off with just a small amount of cash and ended up over-loaded!
The only reason i have stopped now is because i am currently studying for my degree in Computer Science.. But i have a job waiting for me back in my home city..
Anyway, the point of all this; I think becoming a small-time web designer is a great idea if you are serious about it.. Its cheap and easy to set-up.
Regards,
Andrew Buntine.
http://www.buntinedesign.com.au is the website i used to attract customers, etc.. It remains dormant for the moment.

thanks for any input. say you "visualize leading edge infrastuctures", got it from the bs maker (http://members.aol.com/matt999h/bull****.htm) (the profanity filter shaved off the end of the url, so type in what you think belons in the ****. I am doing some freelance work now for part time money. I am going to start actually doing the stuff in a month or two, but I am looking at hosting plans (going to buy up some reseller hosting on an Indian server) and I am starting to advertise locally to small businesses that I think can benefit from a website.

It is easy to start your own business if you have a parent sign some legal forms (this is what I saw doing this summer). Then just go around to some local businesses and ask them if they need sites done, give them a pitch about how it would help their business etc.
sourceforge.net and a few other places are out there too.

Aye. I'm wondering the same thing too. Giving away your work for free doesn't seem very proffitable.

I had a brain fart... I did not mean source forge. What is that site where it is like a forum but people post jobs they need done and developers will comment on it and give offers... ugh Its on the tip of my tongue. Its not guru....
