I'm confused

from the connect option on the menu on Internet info services how do I connect to a remote server?

I'm sure this is very simply done, in fact so simple I can't seem to find any relavant support for it.

I put in username@targetdomain.com but it says its not there, but i can connect usiing ftp, i think it may just be looking locally, but don't know what exactly it is I'm supposed to do?

Hi,
I take it your trying to connect to another web server that is not on the local network. If this is the case then the question your are asking is beond the scope of this forum, however i can point you in the right direction. You need to look at creating a PPTP tunnel (VPN) between your web server and the remote web server. Once this is established your remote server will show up in the connect option in IIS as if it is local.

Hope this helps

is that simple to do?

are there any software requirements I need to cover?

or are there any tutorials to do that?

Hi,
that would depend on your understanding of networks, firewalls and protocols. If your configuring this on a Windows 2000 Server then an undersstanding or routing and remote access.
Here is a link to creating a VPN

Hi,
ok then you never did it correctly. Since my last post i tried the same way as i suggested and it work fine form me. So you will need to explain the setup you have then i can tell you what you are missing.
This is my current setup:
I have a Windows 2003 Small Business Server behind a hardware firewall with NAT enabled running a 4 PC Domain based Network. This is in Dundee, Scotland and connected to a 1mb Business connection. Locally i have IIS running on the Server and IIS running on my own Workstation.
I have a Web Server located in Bolton, England which is connected to a leased line to the Internet. This has windows 200 Server with no Active Directory installed. This is a co-location server so i can't tell you much about the network it is connected to.
I opened up a VPN from the web server to my 2003 server. I went into Active directory on the 2003 domain and added in the web servers computer name to let it join my domain. Then in IIS i connected, browsed and successfully added the remote server into IIS.

Hope this helps

I'm on win XP pro,

the hosting company is hosted our webspace on WinNT apparently.

I asked this morning and according to their "tech support", apparently "There's no way to connect to there hosting with IIS"

Hi,
i would be looking for another host.
I would ask them if you can VPN into their server
How much are you paying for your hosting?
what do you get for your money?
Maybe i can offer you web space and the ability to connect to my web server.
