Hey.
I am building a website for mostly just hotdeals and stuff related to that.
I wrote up a simple website in iframes:
http://www.geocities.com/liquidsilv3r@sbcglobal.net

Go ahead and navigate to pcstuff then to ***All***

I want to be able to update those tables easily, preferrebly from a form submittal or something like that. Is there a way to generate an updatable content page like that?

Should i just start over and make the website in a compltely different format like css, or shtml or like that?

Thanks.

You'll need to use a server side language and a database to be able to quickly update pages using a form. Nothing that geocities can offer. (and most other free hosts)

I'd recomend making sure you are good with writing html, then after you get that down, learn a server side language such as PHP and you'll be on the right track

i am pretty good with html, so do you recommend php as a good ssi? what is the easiest ;P?

Also, if the page looks crappy its my fault i wrote it my ulltra high resolution.

I haven't used any other SSL, but PHP seems pretty easy to me. But which one is "easiest" is more a matter of preference.

And if you're going to get into PHP and Database stuff, I'd recommend just buying some hosting instead of hosting it off your computer. Also, if you want to host it off your computer, you're going to need a broadband connection.

to host off your computer, it needs to b on all the time and connected to the internet, eh? well, if you have windows xp, will it still work if you are not logged onto windows, but at the user selection screen?

will be using linux with apache. dont know what database yet tho. and i would be hosting off a t1, and a dedicated server, so it is not that much of a probby =D. Now on to some pbooks about php......

What do you guys think about Coldfusion?

Go with linux (http://www.linux.org)+apache (http://www.apache.org)+mysql (http://www.mysql.com)+php (http://www.php.net) - AKA LAMP. It's all free, open source, and easy to learn. That'd be my reccomendation. Plus the user base is huge, there are forums and forums full of people willing to help you with stuff.

I personally dont think coldfusion is worth it, i can do anything in php that cold fusion can do, and coldfusion costs money and php doesn't. I like php better anyways. :p

And databases, mysql, postgresql, and m$sql, are the most popular, i use mysql myself and its great.

If you want to use any server side scripting you are going to need to ditch geocities. Geocities supports no form of server side scripting or ssi. This is one of the many reasons why I consider geocities to be the spawn of satan.

Do geocities even disable CGI access now? Geez, back in the day they used to let us use Perl to write CGi scripts.

you get absolutly nothing with geocities!
