Ok....this is question is of a different nature.

I have just put up my online business site...it's nothing fancy but improvemnets may come later.

I want to promote it somewhere but I do not want to be accused of spamming or soliciting so I was wondering what search engines would be the best to submit my site to?

I tried advertising in the paper but that got way too expensive to continue.

This is the first time I have tried to start a business since I am having a hard time finding work right now so any tidbits of info would really help.

Thanks in advance :D ;) :D

Ok got this other week from e-commerce business club.

top search engines

google
Yahoo
ODP
Msn
AOL

google will could of about 90% of your hits

you don't need to register with google, being registered with any of the others will get you in to google. Search Engine Optonisation techniques are what you need to be looking into.

Right now you have 3 major searches...

1. google
2. Overture
3. msn

MSN shouldn't even truely be considered if it wasn't for the fact it's the default search for IE. Which holds majority rule.

Google and Overture is in a constient 'good vs. evil' fight. Picking up clients like AOL and Ask.com and other major searches.

Notice the big tv push with AOL that it uses Google as it's search engine now?

The major point to keep in mind is this... Google will boot your site from it's listings, if not properly done. Also if your looking for hits anytime before spring you'll want to pay to have the Google Bot come to your site. They have the free service still however... it does not happen with any amount of speed.

Adwords and paid listings are popular and have merit, however WELL written meta tags are still going to be your best bet for success.

Digital Dragon - can you give us the link to Fireball I would be interested in checking it out.

You can also try some traffic exchange sites. There is a good one I use http://bannerchain.com
They offer banner exchange exit exchange, text exchange, popup exchange, directory listing, start page exchange, etc.under one account.

It worked for my web site..

P.S: I personally do not like to use popups.

Good Luck.
