storing files in database

how to attach files and store it in the database.

in yahoo mails.when we attach files.what happens.
where is the file stored.
similarly if i want to create the same in my site ,how to do that using java servlets and jsp

so when we click on browse button on the webpage, a common dialog box opens.we select the file we want.so when we click on attach button.what should happen!!!
