using ssh

hi guys,

recently my company has subscribed for a dedicated server.. as far as i know, if we own a dedicated server, we can change all the setting of the php.ini and apache according to our own needs.

now my prob is like,.. i can access to SSH but i dun have much idea how to use it.. is it i need to know how to use UNIX SHELL command in order to utilize this SSH.. besides, is it i need to access SSH in order to edit the php ini file and the other apache setting ??? anothing thing is, is it i need to use SSH too when i wanna install something to the server ??

please advise.

If you have dedicated hosting, you still have a system administrator, correct? If so, you might want to ask him about it--a lot of times they can install things for you, instead of having you install it yourself. I don't personally know how to change the php.ini file on a dedicated server, as my server is shared. :p

I have asked the administrator or support team but the answer they give me is "u may edit php.ini file via ssh" only.

by the way, in order to use ssh, is it i need to know about shell command ??

If you can only edit it via SSH, I believe you would need to know about the shell commands. I don't have any documents on that, though, unfortunately. Sorry I couldn't help more.
