Please could you help a new Site owner.
I use a free site, and i have tried to add 2 animated gifs, they worked on my computer, but only showed a red cross with the name of the gif, on the free site.
I store them in "home" file, and insert into the page, which is uploaded to "www".

And why is an image on top of another in "Netscape 6", but is ok in "Internet Explorer 6"?

Thank you.

Hihi! :p

The broken image icon (red cross) is because your image isn't found where you tell the browser to look for it.

You must check that you use the correct path. Also, case and spaces in file names may a be a problem. Windows is case insensitive. Most servers are flavors of unix and are case sensitive. Hamster.GIF is not the same as hamster.gif and so on. Some free servers tend to rename files in lower case and replace spaces in file names with underscores and so on.

To get help with your second problem you need to provide a URL.

:(
Thank you "Meow" for your reply, i have checked all the files in home, the girls.htm, ftp, www, and view source, and they are all in lowcase and spelt the same as the gif, could it be ALT at fault?

As suggested i enclose URL's, thank you.

Animated gif = drinking_md_wht_.gif.

URL= http://musiksongs planes.netfirms.com/thegirls.htm.

Piggyback image URL =
http://musiksongsplanes.netfirms.com/link3.html

Sorry to be a pain.

(a little poking around reveals the correct url is http://musiksongsplanes.netfirms.com/the girls.htm Note the space.)
From that page: <img src="drinking_md_wht.gif" width="79" height="81" border="0" alt=" drinking_md_wht.gif "left>
There are problems with that image tag, notably the extra word "left" at the end, but that's not what's causing it. Simply put, the image
"drinking_md_wht.gif" doesn't seem to be on the webserver.

From the second page, <img src="rtaxi.jpg" border="0" align="left"><ALT=To:("rtaxi.jpg")>huh? what's with the <ALT...> stuff?

Hiya Gang! A million thanks for all your help, as i said i am a new web owner, and i had been checking "index.html" file all the time.
Yes some of my file names were broken, and files were not on my server, and my animated gif works now.

Also i had a bit of finger trouble when i typed my URL on this site. SORRY.

Best
