What do people think about Yahoo's switch to its own internal search engine (they dumped Google a few weeks ago).
I am still trying to make up my mind. It is definitely a different set of results. In some cases, they seem to be way off -- very irrelevant.

They were using Inktomi the last I heard a month back and purging Google added links.

This is EXACTLY what was being said about Google when they changed their system in November(?). Very few sites went unaffected. This is also the reason for Yahoo's switch back to Inktomi.

I think Yahoo switched to Inktomi because they bought the company and they bought Inktomi because they didn't want to end up being bought by Google. <g>
What's Google Brandy?

does anyone know how agressive yahooslurp is in indexing sites? i've got several (all listed in yahoo directory, plus others) and not one had been indexed yet! Is there a known prioritisation based on location, industry sectot, etc?

Tried a few searches. Results are exactly the same as www.google.com. Any examples of search results coming out significantly different between the two?

The only difference I have noticed between 'Google Brandy' and 'Google Canada' is that Brandy is slightly faster. All the results are the exact same.

They might have finished the migration by now hence the same results.

checked out the link to 'brandy' - for my sector (non-discount skin care, fragrances, cosmetics, shaving, for men and women - uk based) there appears to be more junk/spam on the first few pages than ever! I just tried 'alexander mcqueen kingdom' - a particularly popular designer at the moment and the results are a little disappointing (for me at least :-) ). Most of the sites don't even appear to have much content! ho hum.

Here is an excellent article on the Brandy update: http://www.sitepoint.com/print/brandy-google-update
Yes, Yahoo is using the new Site Match, and Overture, and Inktomi, and AltaVista and AlltheWeb, plus, you can do a free submission as well.

You always could submit to Yahoo for free. They just didn't feel any responsibility to review your site for indexing in a timely manner unless you were paying the $300 (which they want every year) for the Express service.

The $299 fee does NOT guarantee that your site will be included in the Yahoo Directory either. You are paying Yahoo to decide whether or not your site is worthy, and if it is, you get the joy of then paying $299 a year to keep it in the directory.

Such a deal!
