As you can read on the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3546203.stm), amongst others (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/36065.html), the US Patent Office has invalidated Eolas' patent, which threatened usability on the web. It's not certain yet, because Eolas can still appeal, but certainly a victory. I don't know how the US system works very well, so does anyone know what this means in real terms? Any other thoughts?

In real terms it means Microsoft has got off lightly.
