Hello everybody, I'm a new member of this forum.

I have a question that have been bugging me for long time now.

One of my clients requested that the JPGs of his gallery appear in the browser slowly when downloading (they are 800x600 photos generally). All the photos are progressive, but the photos only appear when they are totally downloaded, they just pop up, meaning that they do not appear slowly. I mean that the photos don't show themselves till they are 100 porcent in there, I would like to know a way of making the photos appear while downloading (in a down to bottom manner).

I have a very fast connection so I can't test this, I know that a progressive file will only show lower quality versions but I don't know how to show the files how my client wants (he has a slow connection and says that takes long time till he can see the photo, so he wants to see the progress). Is only a setup of explorer?

I thank in advance for your responses.

PD: Moderator, feel free to move me to the appropiate forum but advice me please. Thanks.

i think that will depend on the browser. I use IE (5 upwards) and if it's a jpeg then it will load from the top down, showing up as it goes along. If it's a small image, then it will pop up straight away, but if its large then it does it it sections - certainly doesnt wait until it's downloaded it all and then displays it.

My advice would be to suggest that it's very very hard to have complete control over the way your site is viewed by other people - there are so many variations of OS's, browsers, graphics cards, modem speeds etc that you cant cater for everyone. Just tell your client that it aint possible. But i'm telling you that if you give me a link to a really large jpeg....

ah hang on a tic i'm with you now. What i mean above is that if you give me a link to a jpeg (not to a html page) then it will download from the top. Embedded in HTML then yes it will just pop up - so maybe one way around your problem would be to do them as links to bigger jpegs that open just as a link to the jpeg (<a href="largeimage.jpg">) - that way they'll load from the top down bit by bit. You could put them in a new window too (<a href="largeimage.jpg" target="_new"> or a javascript alternative).

Any good to you?

Yes, thanks for the advice. I'm actually using a javascript to pop a new window in the center of the screen with the exact size of the image, it may be this the problem as I know for sure that if it is a normal direct link to the jpg works perfect.

So, any suggestion or way of showing the images in a different window but that the image shows itself while downloading? (appart of using a normal jpg link).

I would also like that the user knows that he is in a different window (that's why I change the size in the javascript so he can see the original page under). Is there a way that I can have a nice page that accepts different images, for example: To have one page with a drawing of a tv that accepts (via code or something) different images to show there, with a close button or go back button. Is this possible?

Thanks again.
