Hi,

It's looking like my best option for streaming video is with Flash, can anybody confirm my research here:

1) The video to be streamed is exported by Flash MX Professional in .FLV format.

2) The FLV video is then called by a Flash movie.

3) The FLV video requires the add-on Flash Communication Server 2004 product to stream. Alternatively, you could host with the 3rd-party VitalStream.

Also, given that I only need to stream two small (5mb) files to a fairly small audience, would it be better to go with Progressive FLV instead of Streaming FLV and save the cost of buying the Communication Server?

thanks,
Geoff

Appreciate the link, but we're not doing live video streaming, just streaming files. Didn't appear to answer any of my questions for this case.

I am no expert, but why wouldn't you just create a seperate swf for each movie clip and play them in a empty movie clip when they are called? Especially if they are only 5 mb

Because 5mb is still a little bit of a wait on broadband, let alone on dialup. Streaming allows the user to view the portions of the video they've downloaded, greatly reducing wait times.
