Hi,

I have once heard /read somewhere that there is a way to disable the right-click 'Save the Picture as' feature, when you want to lift a photo of a web page.

A client asked me to protect his images, as he thinks some people might steal them, instead of buying them form the rightfull owner - the photographer.

How do I do it?

Cheers

To add onto the list of ways a user could get your images:

- They could simply type the image URL into the browser.

Thanks for that!

I realise there are other ways, but not THAT many people know them... Majority of computer laypeople hardly know how to save images from the web page! (I have noticed)

So you think disabling the right-click is not the option? How do you do it anyway? With java script?

You dont....

If you disable right-click, all you will be doing is annoying your users. It really is a very bad idea.

There are lots of ways to get an image of a web page... If you exclude the right click, there are other ways:
- view the source of the page and simply download the image
- use offline explorer: it will take the whole page from the internet
- take a screenshot and edit with photoshop to a new image
- etc...

The only way you do that is use images with low resolution and big watermark across so that they have no value.

or run a banner across the middle that says "Sample", that is always a killer.

Lets not forget that many browsers can allow the user to disable java script. I can do it with one click from my tool bar. Right click scripts are useless.

THE BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR IMAGES IS TO NEVER PUT THEM ON THE INTERNET
