I managed to do a menu with main links and sub links below it inside a frame. When I select a link, I am loading the corresponding page in a second frame below. Once the mouse hover over another menu link or when I click on the second frame, the selection (the highlighted colour) disappears.

How can I keep the selected item displayed, until another menu item is selected?

In your menu display code,you must have a hide and display routine,for mouse over display and mouseout hide.
here you only have to make it so unless your mouse is not over another item do not hide.

I do have a delay hide for mouse over. You can check my menu in this link. I am running it on an embeded server.
