Sorry I didn't give much information. I have the flu and I felt like I was gonna puke so I typed it up real fast so I can lay down in bed.

I'm not sure what kind I need cause I haven't studyed database yet, but I know it's useful. I started to read a tutorial on it, but I didn't have database access anywhere and didn't know how to get it. I heard sql is good.

OK well you need to find out what you need for your class.

Because they are not all the same so you cannot just pick one and figure that will be ok.

This is a huge field and no one single answer for learning it all.

Then you will more than likely only need MySQL

Since that's the format most popular forum apps, like the one this site runs on.

I would highly recommend you checking out www.siteturn.com! They have a great menu system, and give you lots of options for cheap money. I have used them for almost 3 years now, and never had any problems.

I use ikonboard...you dont need MySQL for that, but you can use it if you want. :)

Mortekai - if you have any hope of the site having any usage at all you will want to use MySQL vs teh flat file db that it can do. Once you hit a point the site will start having problems.


case and point suggestafix.com ran into so may problems when trying to use the flat file.

MySQL is what he should be using.

I believe it is 800MB for $7.95 a month plus a free domain. The only downfall is you have to pay it all up front.

95 dollars to set up a domain name isnt that a bit steep i usually pick domains up for about 5 dollars or 20 dollars.

They changed what they offered. For quite some time it didn't look like they changed the settings for me. Recently I logged in and the available space was set at unlimited. I think I'm getting close to using about 30MB, so it doesn't really matter.

EDIT: The amount of bandwidth I was using was way way off, but they seemed to have fixed that too.

Most of the plans listed here seem decidedly lightweight for the money. I have my site with GoDaddy, where I get 100GB (not MB) of space, 1000GB of bandwidth and all of the usual goodies (email, databases, various server apps, etc) for a whopping $7/month with no contract. Granted, I've only been a customer there for a few months, but so far, I can't complain....

Yeah ixwebhosting has 1000gb limit, butunless you get a business plan, they don't allow MySql, which is leading to a few issues for me.

Lol no good for me, my site consumes nearly 300mb already, and gets through around 6-7gb traffic a month as it is, and the trend is exponentially increasing.
