For several years i have been very precise as to what i would like to be once i feel i am done with education. A Web Developer.

However, recently i have been reading alot about one precise subject; Robotics.

Whilst i have read several books and discussed the topic with my entrepenurial buddies, i have no real experience in robotics. I dont have the resources to create and program robots, nor do i have the money pursue it at this time.

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with robot design and/or programming that they would like to discuss. Also, if you have any comments, predictions, etc, please comment.

I think it would be a great industry to work in, especially considering how young it is. Very cutting edge stuff!

Thoughts and comments, please.

Regards,
Andrew Buntine.

Hi Andrew,

I have degrees in bothe Electronics and Computing and have known many frnds who are in robotics field.

The field could be cutting edge, depends on what u work in. to pursue this field. u would have 2 have some bit of electronics knowledge and some programming. Electronics cause robotics use a lot of stepper motors and the likes so u have 2 design PCB's and circuits. And to control ur motors and stuff, u need Processors to be precise Micro-Processors and Micro-controllers. Which leads to Embedded programming for example Assembly programming, hard core C.

Hope this is a good starting point for u...

oh by the way the industry is not very young..its been around for a while.....Just that not everything done in the field is made popular....or is known (cause ppl feel its 2 technical)....

Cheers,

Thankyou very much!

I have alot of programming knowledge. Especially C, BASIC, etc.

I have no real electronics knowledge, however. I will have a look at some of the courses available in my area.

When i said it was young, i meant that the real advantages it will bring are yet to come. You know, the whole robot maid idea? lol

Thanks.

Andrew Buntine.

If you are interested in learning some electronics, I recommend The Art of Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0521370957/qid=1082009880/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/102-8166713-8690524?v=glance&s=books&n=507846). I have a few friends who work for linear technologies (http://www.linear-tech.com/) and all of them say that this is pretty much the Bible of electronics.

Thanks, mate.

I have had a bit of a play around with some PIC microcontrollers. Seems like alot of fun ;)
