I like www.gimp.org becuse it's both powerfull in capabilities as well as freeware (and thus available to everybody).

Hi,
sorry i though you ask what the best graphics program was to create graphics for websites. You didn't specify if it was the best free one or the best money can buy?????
Surely the free ones can't be as good as one you have to buy?
To me free normally means crap, having to buy, not always but most of the time means your getting something good.

Hope this helps you decide:D

it also depends on your meaning of "free". many design programs would cost lots of money if you went out and bought them, but they become free thanks to kazaa.

well now i use adobe photoshop 7
And indeed tnx to kazaa its free.
But i c some grapics on site's and i think how the hell dit they make that.
Adobe is good but i dunno how to get the best out of it.
http://www.euro.owns.it is a site i made with it.
But i cant seem to make a code where i can just make 1 pic and then it addapts his size to the text thats on it.
i know i ask weard questions but i'm just lurning how to use html codes. :)

Yes they can. Just download Gimp and see for yourself...

You mean like a Linux + apache makes for a crappy webserver since it free and W2k + IIS is much better with eg higher uptimes just becuse it will cost you the shirt of your back?

You need do do a reality check I think...

i use fireworks 4 and most of the time it works fine. i can usually get it to do what i want. i have photoshop 7 downloaded, but i have yet to get the hang of it. people tell me photoshop is much much better than fireworks, i just find the program to be needlessly compilicated thus far.

I don't think Pete would be happy to hear about illegitimate downloading of commercial applications. Thus I can only presume you meant, you'ld download 'trail versions' of such commercial software via peer-to-peer.

It also depends if you want to use Vector or Bitmap.

I think i need to come live in your country Stefan, get my reality check and get all the best products and services free. I could also set up buisness providing the very best for FREE or i can make crap stuff and try sell it.

Not real sure if you're serious or if you meant this to be a joke, but you should know the majority of servers are unix based apache servers, and are far better than anything MS has put out.

An increasing number of open source (free) programs are becoming what is generally agreed to be the best for its market. You have to think of people's motivations.

Programs you buy: the company doesn't really care whether the software is good or not so long as they get their money. In an interview, Gates once said this explicitly. If it doesn't make the company more money then they won't do it (that includes bug fixes and security flaws, or even an attempt to make it work right in the first place).

Open source (free): a wide range of professional developers fed up with unloading large sums of money for substandard software just so the company can make a quick buck. They collectively write the software they would want for themselves and distribute it freely for each other to use.

You are funny :D
Where did you get 5% from. Wow, this is hilarious :D:D

We have a linux server for computations. Its running for 2 years, without needing to be shut down. My microshaft windows machine crashes even if I happen to sneeze aloud.

LOL, you are even more out of touch then I would have thought :D

"Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April of 1996. The August 2002 Netcraft Web Server Survey found that 63% of the web sites on the Internet are using Apache, thus making it more widely used than all other web servers combined."

This is also a nice link for those interested in FACTS, not fiction...

What do you mean Linux isn't a good webserver?!?!?! And Apache?!?!?! 5% is way to low. I will make a guess, but I think it is at the least 40%. Just cause software cost money doesn't mean it's is good! What about Linux? Now how bout MS Windows? Windows cost money. It is NOT open source. It crashes a lot. It sux. Now Linux is better...

Latest stats I link to above show Apache has 67% of the market of active sites (ie not counting single page domainname placeholders).

That means Apache is 2x more common then all the others combined :)

And considering the lastes big security hole that crippled the net just a few weeks ago was AGAIN in MS webservers, I wouldn't be surprized if Apache takes a few more percent martket share the next months.
