http://www.selfridges.co.uk/

this site sux, the functionality is really shyte and there are problems with the site when viewed using different browsers. on one page they placed content into a frame with a scroll bar, but the content wihin the frame already had a scroll bar, weird

it strange to see a strong brand with such a half arsed site. i felt tempted to provide feedback on how wack their site was but they didn't even have an email contact. the site looks like it was designed by an agency or person with strong graphic design skills and little else

i'm not having a pathetic go here, just thought i would share my observation

I actually think the site is great! However, it does have some pretty annoying drawbacks..

The site is rich with dynamic server-side programming.

Regards.

I agree. It looks nice but the implimentation, Flash navigation in nested frame sets, really sux. The fact it's powered by Notes makes me wonder if IBM had something to do with it.

Yes, however, they will most likely ignore your message or send you a thankyou-but-no-thankyou email.

The main goal of the site is not accessability, but, aesthetics. This web site will be accessable by over 90% of web surfers, sufficable for the company.

Regards,
Andrew Buntine.

Yes, I agree they have been very wily but the so-called accessible text version is inaccessible in both Mozilla and Opera and the search function is broken.

Ouch! Disable JavaScript and you cannot navigate the site that is a serious case of a site that is non navigational.

I shall be proceeding with my investigations.

Anyway try: SelfridgesConnect@sefridges.co.uk

you cannot nlame any site layout, it is their work.

they like it and if even it is wrong we must encourage them, but not find faults in them.

anyway the site looks much good and there is no reason in pointing faults in their sites untill the user or creator asks for his opinions on his site.

so i request the topic may be CLOSED,

Please note: I never said it broke the law I clearly stated that it was not very accessible and I have contacted them asking why that is the current situation.

Possibly it does break the law, I am not a qualified lawyer. I know people that I can directly contact within the DRC, however that was not the issue.

I would imagine it does as it clearly does not meet the following requirement stated in WCAG 1.0:From http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/#tech-scripts
6.3 Ensure that pages are usable when scripts, applets, or other programmatic objects are turned off or not supported. If this is not possible, provide equivalent information on an alternative accessible page.As you pointed out: disable JavaScript and you can no longer navigate the site. It may break other rules but I figured this is one of the more critical ones.

I believe the applicable part of the uk Disability Discrimination Act comes into force in October, so we'll have to wait till then... to find out how they intend to judge accessible from inaccessible i.e. a few court cases.

well i donot say it is harm to comment on an site, but when without the owners knowledge, you are not to comment on an public forum.

The point being you probably cannot e-contact the Webmaster if you don't have JavaScript enabled, I am still waiting for my e-mail reply.

Nobody was giving critiques on the site they were just stating they had difficulties that were preventing them from enjoying their navigational experience.

Only tarka posted the URL nobody else and that was a personal opinion.

Already have. ;) I would be REALLY surprised if these laws are enforced. I think we are getting all excited for nothing.
